Jailed Rapper YNW Melly Denied Emergency Dental Treatment For Infected Tooth Under Diamond Grill
A judge has denied YNW Melly’s request to leave jail for emergency dental work.
According to reports, rapper/singer YNW Melly requested an emergency jail pass for a serious toothache last month. YNW Melly, real name Jamell Maurice Demons, claims his diamond-encrusted grill is infected and requires dental work. However, on August 30, the judge rejected his motion to have his teeth examined.
Reportedly, the 23-year-old artist’s full set of diamond dental crowns requires constant upkeep. However, Melly alleged the jail failed to provide him with a simple toothbrush, floss, or regular dentist visits while incarcerated. As a result, he developed a painful abscess in his lower jaw that he said is the source of his chronic infection.
Melly claims he has private insurance and his legal team reportedly offered to pay for treatment, which would’ve included his own transportation and independent security. But, the judge ultimately decided it was in the court’s best interest to keep him behind bars.
As you may already know, YNW Melly is accused of killing his two friends, rappers YNW Juvy (Chris Thomas, 20) and YNW Sakchaser (Anthony Williams, 21) on October 26, 2018. In February 2019, YNW Melly and YNW member Cortlen “YNW Bortlen” Henry were arrested and charged with first-degree murder. The two had been accused of murdering Juvy and Sakchaser in 2018 and then making it appear as if the two men had been the victims of a drive-by shooting.
Reports state that authorities determined Melly shot the two men while inside a vehicle and co-defendant Cortlen “YNW Bortlen” Henry staged the crime so it would appear to be a drive-by shooting. The “Murder on My Mind” rapper has remained locked up since his arrest, despite numerous attempts to get him out on bond. Bortlen was released on bond in 2020. However, was arrested again in April 2021 for a probation violation.
As previously reported, Melly was initially facing the death penalty for his upcoming double-murder trial, but the judge decided to eliminate the punishment in July during a preliminary hearing. However, the rapper could potentially spend the rest of his life in prison if he is found guilty.
