DaBaby Says Bringing Out Tory Lanez At Rolling Loud Amplified The Backlash He Faced For His Controversial HIV & Homophobic Remarks, Claims He Lost Out On ‘A Hundred Million Dollars’ For The Performance

DaBaby says he wouldn’t have faced as much backlash for his controversial comments made at Rolling Loud Miami 2021 had he not brought out Tory Lanez to perform.

In a recent sit down with HOT 97 show hosts Ebro and Peter Rosenberg, rap star DaBaby opened up on a variety of different topics and controversies that have kept him in the limelight for much of 2021 and 2022.

During the interview, 30-year-old DaBaby, born Johnathan Kirk, spoke about bringing out fellow rap artist Tory Lanez during his set at Miami’s Rolling Loud Festival last year.

The previous performer had been Megan Thee Stallion, the woman Tory Lanez allegedly shot in the foot during the summer of 2020. That same night, the “BOP” rapper went on a homophobic rant to close out a controversial performance.

When DaBaby was asked if he thinks he would’ve received the same controversy had he not brought out collaborator Lanez, real name Daystar Peterson, the rap artist responded,

“F*ck no it wouldn’t have went that way if I wouldn’t have brought bro out. But I’m not into all the conspiracy theories this and that until you see it really cost a n*gga a hundred million dollars within a year span.”

DaBaby then answered the question that was on everyone’s mind at the time, why would he bring out the person accused of shooting his rap-work buddy, Megan Thee Stallion? He said,

“I ain’t that invested into their business. You get what I’m saying, like I say off the rip. I got a song with him that’s doing good.”

He continued,

“Me and bro been did that song before whatever little altercation they had or whatever alleged altercation whatever. We been did that song. She know that sh*t. And the video been shot.”

DaBaby added,

“The n*gga paid me for the verse, paid me for the video. You crazy? What I’m a do? Because it’s an alleged situation he got going on that don’t got nothing to do with me I’m supposed to not give this man what he paid for? Not post his sh*t? No this sh*t ain’t that deep.”

As previously mentioned, DaBaby made headlines for controversial statements he made regarding HIV during his Rolling Loud performance on July 25, 2021. While on stage he said,

“If you didn’t show up today with HIV/AIDS, any of them deadly sexually transmitted diseases that will make you die in 2 [or] 3 weeks put a cellphone light in the air.”

He added,

“Fellas, if you ain’t sucking d*ck in the parking lot put ya cellphone light in the air.”

“Keep it f*cking real!”

Following his set, many people called out the “Rockstar” rapper for his unwarranted remarks. DaBaby also faced a few consequences for his actions, including being dropped from multiple music festivals and his clothing line with BoohooMAN. Initially, DaBaby seemed to stand his ground on what was said, but on August 2, 2021, he offered an apology via his Instagram page to the LGBTQ+ community.

Social media users noticed that not even a full week later, on August 8 of that year, DaBaby removed the apology from his Instagram page.
