Jeremih Opens Up About Learning ‘How To Walk Again,’ Following An Intense Battle w/ COVID-19
Although COVID didn’t take singer/producer Jeremih’s life, it almost took his ability to walk.
In a recent interview on Angela Yee’s Lipservice podcast, the ‘Down on Me’ singer, whose real name is Jeremy Phillip Felton, opened up about his battle with COVID and how the disease had him “down bad.” He recalled even struggling to do simple tasks such as walking to the restroom.
“I had to learn how to walk again…[I] was getting of the bed — I’m thinking I’m just going to take a leak, but you know, I ain’t, I aint…”
Jeremih paused then continued,
“Everyday I had to learn how to walk again, learn how to walk up the steps type sh*t.”
It was two years ago, at the height of the pandemic, when Jeremih said he began experiencing severe stomach pain and “could feel the room shaking.” Soon after calling his mom, he checked himself into the hospital.
When the news first broke in 2020 that the Chicago native was hospitalized, the situation seemed grim. Jeremih’s celebrity friends such as; 50 Cent, Chance The Rapper, Big Sean, and Htitmaka (Yung Berg), all shared their public prayers for his recovery.

The “Birthday” singer spent a month and a half in ICU fighting for his life after being diagnosed with Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome (MIS), a rare but serious condition associated with COVID-19 that impacts different parts of the body including the heart, lungs, kidneys, brain, skin, eyes, and gastrointestinal organs. During his interview, he said,
“All my organs just kind of exploded.”
He continued,
“They had the trach[eostomy] in my throat. I didn’t think I could even still sing like that.”

Thankfully, Jeremih is not only doing well, but he also seems to be thriving after battling the illness that once devastated his life.
“I’m in a great space now.”
