Chadwick Boseman’s Widow Simone Breaks Her Silence Following The Loss Of The ‘Black Panther’ Star: I Can’t Believe That I Got To Love This Person & Got Them To Love Me Too
Simone Ledward Boseman is speaking out for the first time about what it was like to lose her husband, famed actor Chadwick Boseman.
In a recent interview with Whoopi Goldberg, Chadwick Boseman’s widow chatted about her marriage with the late actor and how life changed once he passed away. Simone Boseman reminisced:
“I met this person who is this wonderful man and he then ended up being a global superstar and really after Black Panther came out [the fame] did kind of happen over night.”

As previously reported, the world was shocked when news broke that Chadwick Boseman had passed away on August 28, 2020. He died from stage IV colon cancer after battling the disease in silence for four years. Simone Boseman emotionally continued:
“I can’t believe that I was so lucky. I can’t believe that I got to love this person and I also got them to love me too.”
She added:
“It has been the most challenging two years I’ve ever had in my life.”
Reflecting on her husband battling cancer in private, the 32-year-old noted:
“It was COVID when things were really starting to spiral and that meant that everybody was in their house and there was no pressure for anybody to go outside. It seemed like is this a crazy coincidence that we get to actually be inside, we get to be here with family, together and everybody in the world is also experiencing this togetherness in the midst of this awful scary unpredictable time? We kept that circle real – our circle was basically a dot.”

Simone then shared how her mental health has been since she lost her husband to cancer:
Somedays I’m doing worse than I’m really willing to acknowlege and other days I’m doing better than I feel comfortable admitting. The grief it really, it moves in.”
Howard University was Chadwick Boseman’s alma mater. The institution recently reestablished its College of Fine Arts program, naming it in memory of the late actor. Referencing Howard University graduate Shawn Smith, she said:
“We have a scholarship now at Howard and we have four scholars, one of them graduated this past year and was very proud to be the first graduating Boseman scholar of the first graduating class of the Chadwick Boseman College of Fine Arts.”
Since Chadwick passed away, Simone has accepted the Golden Globe on her late husband’s behalf for his role in “Black Bottom,” and is continuing to make sure his legacy stays alive.
