Letitia Wright Says She’s ‘Afraid To Lose People’ Following The Death Of Chadwick Boseman: These Things Make You Realize It’s Important To Reach Out To People You Love

Chadwick Boseman’s death was tough for everyone, especially his “Black Panther” co-star Letitia Wright.

As you may already know, the two played siblings T’Challa and Shuri in the 2018 Marvel film, “Black Panther.” They seemingly built a strong connection prior to Chadwick Boseman’s death. The skilled actor passed away from colon cancer in 2020. He was only 43 years old.

During a recent interview, Letitia Wright opened up about how Chadwick Boseman’s death changed the way she interacts with people she cares about. Now, Letitia Wright often finds herself sending texts to friends, such as her co-star Danai Gurira and “Black Panther” director Ryan Coogler, just to “tell them I love them.”  The actress noted that she checks in on Ryan Coogler regularly.

The 29-year-old continued,

“I’m not going to delay that anymore because tomorrow’s not promised. Since Chad died, I’m so afraid to lose people.” 

She added,

“You think you have time, and that’s the thing I’ve learned. These things make you realize it’s important to reach out to people you love.”

The actress admitted that she initially struggled with her co-star’s death. She previously said,

“It haunted me for months that I couldn’t say goodbye to him or be around my ‘Black Panther’ family to share in that moment. I kind of had to do that by myself.”

Thanks to cast members like actor Daniel Kaluya and director Ryan Coogler, she was able to come out of her funk and get back to work. She said Coogler had a “gentle conversation” with her on how to move forward.

In 2021, she reunited with the cast to shoot “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.”  A year later, the movie premiered on November 11. On the red carpet, the cast paid tribute to the fallen Chadwick Boseman with their kind words. The film’s soundtrack also included a special track from Rihanna “Lift Me Up” inspired by the late actor.

During the film’s premier, Letitia wore a suit inspired by the one Chadwick had on at the 2018 Oscars.

The “Black Panther” sequel explores the challenges that Wakanda faces following the passing of T’Challa. The movie’s opening weekend grossed $330M globally and set a new box office record with a November $180M domestic debut.

The “Silent Twins” actress admitted in a previous interview that she believes Chadwick would have been proud of the new film. She said,

“The emotions are really raw. We really just gave our hearts to this and gave the truth of what we were feeling to the project. Definitely needed to balance it, Because there is a lot of adventure, a lot of humor in this movie. But also a strong feeling of purpose and a strong feeling of love towards our brother.”
