Kerry Washington & Oprah To Star In Tyler Perry’s ‘Six Triple Eight’, A Film About An All-Black, All-FemaleWorld War II Unit
Tyler Perry is working on his fourth film at Netflix, and it features an all-star cast.
Oprah Winfrey and Kerry Washington will all star in the media mogul’s upcoming film, Six Triple Eight.

The movie, which is based on the historical account of the only all-black, all-female World War II unit that proved crucial to the American war effort, will also have Kerry Washington serving as executive producer.
Sam Waterston, Ebony Obsidian, Shanice Shantay, Milauna Jackson, Sarah Jeffery, Kylie Jefferson, Pepi Sonuga and Jay Reeves are also part of the film’s cast — and it’s already in the works.
A WWII History magazine article by Kevin M. Hymel served as the inspiration for Tyler Perry‘s script for Six Triple Eight.
The film shares the story of 855 women who joined the war effort with no awareness of what they would be doing specifically but were soon assigned the task to go through and correct a three-year backlog of undelivered mail.
The women’s arduous mission of sorting over 17 million pieces of mail in order to reunite American servicemen with their families and loved ones back home was completed despite discrimination, a foreign environment, and a war-torn nation.
On March 14, 2022, U.S. President Joe Biden signed a law granting the women the Congressional Gold Medal, the highest honor bestowed by Congress, restoring the history of the 6888th Postal Directory Battalion that had been suppressed until that point.
Following A Fall From Grace, A Madea Homecoming, and A Jazzman’s Blues, Six Triple Eight will be Tyler Perry‘s fourth Netflix original.
And in addition to his Netflix project, Amazon Studios announced on Monday (Nov. 28) that it has set a four-picture film deal with Perry.
The prestigious filmmaker will write, direct, and produce four features that will be released on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide. Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios, said,
“Tyler Perry is undeniably one of the most prolific creators of our time. He is a true multihyphenate who has defined his own incredible brand of storytelling and inspired people all over the world with his series and films.”

She added,
“We are excited to collaborate with Tyler and his teams to bring even more of his fantastic signature films to our global audiences.”
Perry is certainly a busy man these days, but he’s definitely looking forward to what’s to come. As far as his exciting deal with Amazon, he said,
“Jennifer Salke and the entire team have welcomed me with open arms, and I’m looking forward to continuing telling unique stories and bringing my next projects to the global audiences that they reach.”
