Mo’Nique Says She ‘Grew Out Of’ Open Marriage Arrangement w/ Husband
Mo’Nique has closed the door on her open marriage!
Famed comedian/actress Mo’Nique is in her comeback era! As previously reported, fans are currently awaiting her highly-anticipated Netflix comedy special, which is set to premiere globally on April 4th. The special follows a settlement between the “Precious” actress and the streaming network. You may recall that in 2019 Mo’Nique sued Netflix for racial and gender discrimination.
In addition to fixing things with Netflix, Mo’Nique is also in a much better place with Lee Daniels. The pair had a falling out that lasted years. However, fans can now watch Mo’Nique as the star in Lee Daniels’ latest BET film “The Reading.”

It seems like Mo’Nique is making major changes in her personal life as well. During a recent interview, the Academy Award winner shared why she and husband Sidney Hicks have decided to end their open marriage agreement. She said,
“Life began to happen. I began to see a strength I had never seen before. He loved me at my worst. I didn’t want to sacrifice that just for a lay. So I grew out of that.”
Mo’Nique and Sidney Hicks have been married since 2006 and they share 17-year-old twin sons together. Hicks is also Mo’Nique’s manager. During her interview, she shared that he’s,
“the best manager that I’ve ever had, and I’ve had the big boys.”

According to reports, Mo’Nique first revealed that she and her husband/manager were in an open relationship in an interview that took place the year they got married. In 2016 she spoke more about their previous arrangement and said people didn’t understand.
“They thought it was about swinging and orgies, and then there were individuals who are vehement about God, and they were bringing God into their opinions. People lost their minds, and the criticism has never let up.”
She continued,
“Sidney had this one thing he had to teach me, and that was reciprocity. He said, ‘If you can have that, it’s only fair that I can have that, too.’ … I wanted to continue to see the gentlemen that I was seeing, and I felt comfortable telling my best friend [Hicks]. I’m grateful he taught me I had to play fair.”
