Shawn Kemp Identified As Alleged Suspect In Recent Washington Mall Drive-by Shooting, Former NBA Player Is Claiming Self-Defense
Cleveland Cavaliers’ phenomenon Shawn Kemp is the prime suspect in a drive-by shooting.
According to reports, around 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday (Mar. 8), Washington state authorities received a call about a gun being fired in the parking lot of Tacoma Mall.

Allegedly, upon an argument between two individuals in separate cars, one of the drivers (seemingly Shawn Kemp) let off several rounds at the other party’s vehicle.
Apparently, no wounds were inflicted, and the perceived victim made an exit. Following the occurrence, officials located 53-year-old Shawn Kemp and identified him as the assumed shooter after recovering a weapon from the investigative scene. The six-time NBA All-Star was then taken into custody.
Tacoma Police Department addressed the matter in a brief statement. The release issued from their Twitter account read,
“At 1:58pm, an altercation between the occupants of 2 cars led to shots being fired at a parking lot in the 4500 blk of S. Steele St. One car fled. No injuries reported. A gun was recovered. A 53-yr-old male was booked for Drive-By Shooting. The investigation is ongoing.”

However, sources close to Kemp later claimed that his actions were in self-defense. Supposedly, an iPhone had been stolen from Kemp’s car, and he tracked the unknown person down to (obviously) retrieve the taken property. Kemp and the said thief then engaged in a heated argument, and bullets began to fly from the unnamed man/woman.
From there, the basketball retiree is believed to have protected himself.
Due to the unfortunate events, Kemp caught a felony drive-by shooting charge, and he was denied bail. His arraignment is set for Thursday (Mar. 9).
Further details are developing.
