Recap of Bishop Eddie Long’s Service, “I’ll be here next week.”

The rumors were wrong (myself included in being wrong). Bishop Eddie Long is not stepping down from his position at New Birth. He literally just left the stage and is holding a news conference at 10 a.m. He’s also scheduled to speak at the 11 a.m service.

Just to summarize, Long spoke for almost 30 minutes.

Just to recap the service, the congregation was very supportive of the highly anticipated remarks expected by Bishop Eddie Long. Bernice King, Dr. King’s daughter, was present and spoke during offering.

Here are a few bites from Long during his ceremony:

“I am not going to try this case in the media, it will be tried in the court of justice and decided in the court of justice.  Please hear this: I’ve been accused. I’m under attack. I want you to know as I said earlier I am not a perfect man. … But this thing I’m going to fight. I feel like David against Goliath, but I’ve got five rocks and I haven’t thrown one yet.”

After Long spoke, he exited the stage, and some other pastor came on.

My gf, who attended, said the service was overwhelmingly high with energy and support , and that she could spot folks trying to text on their phones during service. The ushers were looking at folks side-eyed too. People were leaving after Long spoke (how rude! but I feel them though). Lastly, I can not find ANY coverage of him saying that he did not have a sexual relationship with these boys. If you find it, let me know!
