‘The Game’ Reboot Has Been Cancelled After 2 Seasons

Bad news for fans of ‘The Game.’

According to reports, “The Game” has been cancelled by Paramount+ after two seasons. In addition, the show is set to be removed from the streaming service in the coming days. However, they aren’t alone. A slew of other shows are being cancelled as well including “Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies,” “Star Trek: Prodigy,” and “Queen of the Universe.”

A Paramount+ spokesperson said:

“We want to extend our thanks to our tremendously talented cast and crew and our producing partners for their passionate work and dedication on these programs, and we wish them all the best on their future endeavors.”

News of the cancellations comes days ahead of the merger between Paramount+ and Showtime which will debut on June 27. The move comes a few months after Paramount+ removed a slew of other shows from its streaming service including Coyote, No Activity, Guilty Party, The Harper House, The Real World and The Twilight Zone.

According to an individual with knowledge of the removals, the decision was data-driven however, Paramount has not provided any specific data as to why these shows have been cancelled. Other streamers such as Netflix, HBO Max and Disney+ have also previously removed original series from their services as a way to cut costs.

The Game is a revival of the comedy series that originally aired on The CW and BET. It premiered on Paramount+ in November 2021 with the second season released in December 2022.

The Game offers a modern-day examination of Black culture through the prism of pro football. The team tackles racism, sexism, classism and more as they fight for fame, fortune, respect and love – all while trying to win and play the game.
