‘Power Book II: Ghost’ Star Michael Rainey Jr. Says He Was ‘Trolling’ When He Claimed Cast Wasn’t Fully Aware Series Would End w/ Season 4
In March news broke that Power Book II: Ghost would end with season 4, which is set to kick off on June 7. Many were shocked by the announcement, and series star Michael Rainey Jr. even took to his socials and claimed,
“Don’t ask me nothing idk what’s goin on in them offices lmao they Trippin final season otw tho I guess”
In a follow-up post backing allegations from one of the show’s writers that Starz “didn’t bother to tell anybody on staff” about the cancelation, Michael Rainey Jr. added,
“my fellow writer said it best. we knew but not the way we should’ve.”

However, during a newly aired interview with The Breakfast Club, Michael Rainey Jr. claimed his initial remarks were just his way of “trolling” like his boss 50 Cent, who serves as an executive producer of the show. The 23-year-old said,
“I was trolling, I took a page out of 50’s book with that one. I just knew it was go stir the pot. I knew people was gonna react to it so I was like, let me just see what happens.”
He continued,
“They told me before everyone knew but I just wanted to troll everybody and I knew it was gonna get a reaction out of people.”
Speaking on how he felt when he learned the show wasn’t coming back after season 4, he said,
“In the moment, I was kind of confused ’cause I’m like, that don’t even make sense. We’re one of the top performing [shows] on the network. It’s like, a weird piece of information.”
Michael Rainey Jr. also shared that it wasn’t until after they filmed for the final season that he and his cast learned the series was done.
