Toronto Tempo Announced As Canada’s First WNBA Team
The WNBA has officially announced the name of its newest franchise—Canada’s Toronto Tempo! The team name was reportedly chosen after more than 10,000 fans participated in a public engagement program.
During a press conference earlier today (December 5), Toronto Tempo president Teresa Resch shared the inspiration behind the name, stating:
“Tempo is pace. It’s speed. It’s a heartbeat. And it’s what you feel when you step into the streets of this city, and in the energy of the people who call Canada home.”
Adding:
“As Canada’s WNBA team, I know the Tempo will set our own pace, move at a championship cadence, and inspire people across this country.”

A promotional video revealed the team’s logo and colors, offering a first look at the brand. However, uniforms remain under wraps for now.
The Tempo is set to debut in 2026 at Toronto’s Coca-Cola Coliseum, marking a major milestone for the WNBA’s expansion. With the Golden State Valkyries joining in 2025 and Portland launching alongside Toronto in 2026, the league’s momentum appears stronger than ever!
