Sports Reporter Malika Andrews Defends Her Coverage Of Black NBA Players: ‘I Want To Be Accurate & Fair’

Malika Andrews is setting the record straight about the criticism surrounding her coverage of Black NBA athletes.

The NBA Countdown and NBA Today host recently addressed the allegations during a sit-down with Sacramento Kings player DeMar DeRozan for his show Dinners with DeMar. Critics claim she’s biased when it comes to covering Black NBA players, but Andrews made it clear that these accusations couldn’t be further from the truth.

Andrews pointed to her efforts to always be fair, saying,

“I always say I’m going to be two things. I want to be accurate, and I want to be fair. If I’m not one of those two things, this is my number. Please call me.”

The accusations have been hurtful to Andrews, with some even using her mixed-race family background and marriage to fellow ESPN reporter Dave McMenamin to fuel the claims. She shared,

“It is hurtful when that seeps through, particularly for me when it’s not true. Sometimes it is hurtful when people say that I hate Black men or think that. That couldn’t be farther from the truth, and using my family or the way that my family looks as some sort of evidence of that is just untrue, and it’s just unkind.”
