UPDATE: Alijah Arenas’ Crash Likely Caused By Excess Speed, Police Say
Alijah Arenas’ serious crash, which left the 18-year-old hospitalized with severe injuries, was likely caused by excessive speed, according to law enforcement sources.
The incident occurred at 5 AM on a residential road in Winnetka, a 40 MPH zone. Alijah Arenas was driving a Cybertruck, owned by his father, ex-NBA star Gilbert Arenas, when he lost control and collided with a fire hydrant, wrapping the vehicle around a tree. Neighbors heard the crash and rushed to help, rescuing Alijah from the burning truck.
He was treated for smoke inhalation, bruises, and other injuries. Despite the frightening incident, a family rep confirmed that Alijah Arenas, a top USC recruit and potential NBA draft pick, is recovering well.
