‘Blue Clues’ Star Steve Burns Reflects On Struggling w/ Depression & Death Rumors After Leaving The Show: ‘People You’ve Never Met Tell You That You’re Dead’

Steve Burns, former host of “Blue’s Clues,” has opened up about the depression he faced during and after the show, alongside the persistent rumors of his death.

On the “Soul Boom” podcast, Steve Burns shared,

“After I left the show, this rumor continued and one of the most common things people would say to me was: ‘I thought you were dead.’”

These rumors, including that he died from overdose or su*vide, caused immense pain.

Steve Burns admitted,

“It’s bad when you’re severely clinically depressed,” especially when “a gazillion people you’ve never met tell you that you’re dead.”

Even appearances on talk shows couldn’t stop the falsehoods, with people still questioning his survival. Burns eventually sank into alcoholism, living a secluded life.

“I gained like 50 pounds. I was completely unrecognizable,” he said. However, therapy and advice from his “Blue’s Clues” character, Steve, helped him reclaim his life, saying, “That is when Steve became my teacher.”

Glad to see Steve doing better!
