‘Black Panther’ Director Ryan Coogler Was Reportedly In Talks To Work On Marvel’s Upcoming X-Men Reboot, But Timing Didn’t Align
Ryan Coogler was reportedly in talks to direct Marvel’s upcoming X-Men movie.
Film reporter Jeff Sneider shared that Marvel Studios had discussions with the Black Panther director about taking on the reboot, saying,
“I know they did talk to Ryan Coogler at one point… but Coogler, with the timing, you know, he’d have to focus on Black Panther 3. He’s needed in another corner of the universe.”

This reboot will officially introduce the X-Men into the Marvel Cinematic Universe now that Marvel has regained the film rights to the characters. It’s been reported that Kevin Feige is working on a ten-year plan centered around the X-Men franchise.
While Coogler is no longer in the running, Thunderbolts director Jake Schreier has been mentioned as a possibility, and screenwriter Michael Lesslie (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes) has already been hired to write the first draft.
