Harvey Weinstein Rape Charge Declared Mistrial After Jury Foreperson Refuses To Continue Deliberations
Harvey Weinstein’s retrial in New York hit a dramatic snag earlier today (June 12) after the lead juror refused to return to deliberations.
According to reports, the judge officially declared a mistrial on one of the key rape charges after the jury foreperson declined to continue, claiming he felt threatened by fellow jurors pressuring him to change his vote.
The disgraced Hollywood producer, 73, was being retried on multiple sexual assault charges after his original 2020 conviction was overturned earlier this year. The mistrial was declared during deliberations over allegations from aspiring actress Jessica Mann, who accused Weinstein of raping her in 2013. With the jury unable to reach a consensus on that charge, the court had no choice but to declare a mistrial.

Still, jurors reached verdicts on two of the three charges. On Wednesday (June 11), Weinstein was found guilty of first-degree criminal sexual act for forcibly performing oral sex on former production assistant Miriam “Mimi” Haley in 2006. He was also acquitted of a similar charge involving model Kaja Sokola, stemming from the same year.
Weinstein did not testify in the retrial and continues to plead not guilty to all charges. His lawyer has reportedly stated they plan to appeal the decision from Wednesday’s verdict.
Despite the mistrial, he remains a convicted felon, currently serving a 16-year sentence for a separate 2013 rape conviction in Los Angeles.
What are your thoughts on the outcome of the retrial?
