World’s Largest Password Breach Exposes 16 Million Credentials From Facebook, Google & More
Researchers have confirmed the largest password leak in history—16 billion login credentials have been exposed in what experts are calling a “blueprint for mass exploitation.”
Cybernews investigator Vilius Petkauskas says the leaked data spans major platforms like Apple, Facebook, Google, GitHub, and government services, sourced from 30 supermassive datasets—most of which were previously unknown.
“These aren’t just old breaches being recycled,” researchers warned. “This is fresh, weaponizable intelligence at scale.”
Most credentials are formatted by URL, login, and password, making them prime fuel for phishing attacks. Darren Guccione, CEO of Keeper Security, emphasized that even misconfigured cloud environments can expose data unintentionally. “This could be just the tip of the iceberg,” he said.
Experts advise immediate action: change your passwords, use a password manager, and enable passkeys and two-factor authentication. Javvad Malik of KnowBe4 adds, “Cybersecurity is a shared responsibility. Organizations must protect users, and users must stay vigilant.”
