Decades-Old Atlanta Strip Club The Cheetah To Be Demolished For High-Rise Student Housing Near Georgia Tech
End of an era!
Atlanta’s iconic Cheetah Lounge, a staple of the city’s nightlife for nearly 50 years, will soon be replaced by a high-rise student housing development, according to developers.
Located at 887 Spring Street since 1987, The Cheetah has long marketed itself as the “Southeast’s most renowned nightclub.” Officials with Core Spaces and Capstone Communities confirmed they plan to redevelop the property into a multi-phase, mixed-use project.
The first phase will include 1,600 student beds and 5,000 square feet of street-level retail. The design will feature a third-floor amenity deck and street-level enhancements to improve pedestrian activity. The project is set to break ground in late 2026, with completion expected by 2029.
The Cheetah’s two-acre site, last sold in the 1980s for under $2.3 million, had previously attracted offers north of $30 million. Now, it’s being called one of Midtown’s last major undeveloped parcels, signaling the end of a risqué era.
