Mary J Blige’s Charity Drops Ball on College Scholarships, Student Speaks Out

Looks like there’s more negative press for Mary J. Blige. The latest not-so-favorable news comes on the tail of bad press surrounding her “The Mary J. Blige and Steve Stoute Foundation For The Advancement Of Women Now” (FFAWN). And over the weekend, allegations hit that some of the charity’s scholarship recipients may be forced to drop out of college, because of the charity’s neglect. In 201o, Blige’s charity agreed to pay college tuition for 25 seniors, who successfully graduated from the all-girls Women’s Academy of Excellence. But after the first year, the charity neglected to make further payments. Specifically, Page Six spoke with one student, Gennevive Sarfoah, who alleges that although she made the dean’s list, Blige’s charity only paid her bill in time the first year and she’s received nothing since. Gennevive claims she’s been forced to take out a loan and may not be able to continue her education. She explained:
“I feel like they stood us up”
And she’s not the only student that alleges to be in this situation. Another scholarship winner, Whitney Kuffour, shares the same story. Her mother says,
“I have to get a loan for her to go to school. I’ve been calling and e-mailing them and there’s no response…”
No word from Blige’s camp yet.
