Mashonda Responds to Alicia Keys’ JET Interview: ‘We were not separated!’
To date, there are still a select few that refer to Alicia Keys as a home-wrecker, who indirectly broke-up the marriage between Swizz Beatz and his wife, Mashonda. There have been a number of variations to what occurred in their love triangle. Some suggest that Alicia was oblivious to the fact that Swizz and Mashonda were NOT separated. Others say that Swizz misled Alicia into believing that he and Mashonda were officially over. And while this marriage (Mashond and Swizz’s) dissolved years ago, last week, old wounds were opened via an interview that Alicia did with JET magazine. In her interview, Alicia addressed rumors that she had an affair and ‘stole’ (my words, not theirs) Swizzy from Mashonda. She explained:
“…[They] were apart for some time before we ever got together…that doesn’t matter to those who take pleasure in trying to knock others down…there’s no need to fight what’s not true…”
Fast forward to the present day, in an interview with Global Grind, Mashonda has responded to Alicia’s comments to JET. Peep a few excerpts below:
What was your initial reaction when you caught wind of Alicia’s JET Magazine interview?
Not much surprises me anymore when it comes to this situation. I truly thought that everyone’s priority was the well being of the children involved. I don’t see the sense in throwing oil on a fire, it just takes us back to point A. The Jet interview just added insult to injury. I can’t figure out how this makes us better. How is it a positive, humanitarian gesture? But artists must protect their reputation and I get that.
In the interview Alicia Keys says “…[They] were apart for some time before we ever got together…that doesn’t matter to those who take pleasure in trying to knock others down…there’s no need to fight what’s not true…” Did you feel like this was a indirect stab at your open letter?
There have been many stabs and shots taken, thankfully they don’t bother me the way they used to. I’ve never lied about one thing involving the demise of my marriage. No, we were not “apart” or separated, and that’s just a fact that can be proven in many ways. Blessings have a way of disguising themselves. This situation has helped me to understand life and what really matters.
What about the rumors of you starring on reality TV? Is this something you would ever consider?
Reality TV will only work for me if I can choose the cast and the situations I’m apart of. As of now, there are no TV shows of my life being filmed. My life is already a motion picture event.

I don’t think Alicia said anything wrong. Nothing she said was directed at Mashonda. And she can say they were still together, but wasn’t it rumored that Swizz had a daughter with someone a year before him and Alicia even got together? Like dude, get over it. Stop using this as a crutch.
Alicia should have never commented on it…..Whether she knew or not, Mashonda and Swizz were not separated.
He is just a cheater – Alicia was just the better look, IMO, most famous chick he’s taking down, best look for him and his career – but he had many chicks in rotation…and all of them giving up raw sex….gross.

Agreed. Alicia should have just left that entire discussion alone, she re-opened the door. In my opinion, I think Alicia knew he was still married but that there was trouble in the marriage – so she engaged. That is what is commonly referred to, as a homewrecker. Doesn’t much matter b/c it still tarnished her image.
I think she should have never discussed it, b/c she reminded the public that she was knowingly or unknowingly a homewrecker. And Mashonda has ever right to respond. As for the woman that had his baby, I’m sure that caused the trouble in the marriage, and Alicia just sealed the deal to the end.
Agree! The same way she (Alicia) got him (Swizz) is the same way she will loose him. If he has cheated on his wife and had a baby outside of his marriage…..what makes her (Alicia) so different. Is she paying his child support….is she willing to accept all that he does just to be with him…..to to Swizz she is the better lick financially. She should have left well enough alone and not spoke of the situation (at least to media).
It really doesn’t matter whether Alicia knew or whether Mashonda chooses to continue to react about the situation. At the end of the day, it doesn’t change the fact that Mashonda is no longer to Swizz and Alicia is with him now. Mashonda will never be able to truly move forward or heal while continually trying to defend her relationship with a man that no longer gave a care about her. Personally, Mashonda shouldn’t continue to feed or stroke Swizz or Alicia’s egos. Stop taking the bait, if you know the truth of what really happened you should have comfort in that — trying to convince everyone will not change those who believe otherwise. She shouldn’t want to be always known as the woman left by Swizz beats for Alicia Keys. #LetItGo
I don’t think of Mashonda as “the woman left by Swizz beats for Alicia Keys”. I think of Mashonda as the wife who’s home was wrecked by a Alicia Keys, and the wife who was married to a whore name Swizz. Under NO circumstance should Alicia Keys ever responded to that question. She took the BAIT, she’s done a million interviews, she knew better than to go there. It makes me wonder if she’s taunting that girl on purpose. Mashonda had every right to respond. If Alicia keeps the girls name (or situation) out of her mouth, she wouldn’t have to respond. I had just started to forget about it since she released Girl On Fire, but this is just a reminder.

What are you guys talking about. Alicia Key’s never had the opportunity to respond to to this and she finally did. Mashonda needs to stop being so damn bitter. Her and best friend Emily B new what they were getting themselves into. Why you all are talking about Alicia, Mashonda “stole” is that’s what you want to call it Switzz from his prior childs mother so she is no better. Switz was with his oldest child mother and he cheated on her with Mashonda and from my understanind Mashonda new they were still together and she did even want Switz to see his older child once they got married. This was because she thought Switz was going to go back to his first childs mother. #fact.
