Travis Porter Hits Baltimore…Talks: Not Being Real-Hip, Favorite Strip Clubs & College (Sorta)
Last week (April 26th), Travis Porter hit Baltimore and held an in-store event at urban fashion retailer DTLR. The group, who hail from Decatur, Georgia, consists of Lakeem “Ali” Mattox, Donquez “Quez” Woods and Harold “Strap” Duncan. (BTW, Ali and Quez are stepbrothers.) They recently signed with Jive Records and have become well known across the country for a few catchy ass club songs like, “Make It Rain” and “Bring It Back.”
On how things have changed since being signed with Jive Records: “We have more of an international hook, like 106 & Park…more money, but bigger opportunities. Oh, I bought a Maserati.”
On people saying Travis Porter is not ‘real hip-hop’: “Broke n*ggas make me sick.” That line was actually playing from one of their songs and seemed to fit in perfectly with how they felt about the question. “LOL, we don’t acknowledge that.”
On the cities that they’ve visited that have the finest women: “The whole DMV. DC, Maryland, and Virginia have the finest women.”
On plans to further their education and attend college: “Uh, maybe. We may do a reality show when we attend college. That’s (the reality show) in the works; so be on the look-out for that.”
On if they expected their single ‘Make it Rain’ to be such a huge hit: “Nah, but we knew it was a good song.”
On their favorite strip clubs: “We have a few of them – especially in Atlanta. Kamal’s 21 is our favorite.”
On what they’re listening to musically right now: “Real music. Big Sean, Wiz…we listening to everything from old to new.”
