More Bad News for Bishop Eddie Long: Church’s Christian School Shut Down

In September of 2010, Bishop Eddie Long of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, in Atlanta, was accused of sexual coercion by three young male church members. The case was settled in May 2011, on undisclosed terms. In August, two of his accusers announced that they planned to write a tell-all book about Long. And in October he was sued for an investment scam that happened at the church. Then, earlier this month, his wife, Vanessa, filed for divorce, changed her mind and cancelled, then changed her mind again and continued with the divorce suit. Since the last unfavorable public incident (via his wife announcing that she wanted a divorce), Long decided to take a break from all the drama, and go on a vacation.
But, unfortunately, there’s more bad news for him. Now his elementary school, New Birth Christian Academy, will close its doors. The school is a small, private, elementary academy, with 221 students. Tuition fees were about $5,253 per student for parents who were New Birth Church members, and about $6,198 per student for parents who were not members. Plus there were about $1K worth of additional fees parents needed to pay per student. When the students were let out for winter vacation, they were each given a notice to inform their parents about the school’s sudden closing due to financial issues. The note read,
“We have operated New Birth Christian Academy for several years with substantial deficits in hopes that the national economic climate would change. However, that change never materialized. We are doing everything in our power to reopen the school at some point in the near future.”
By January 4th, when winter vacation ends, all of the parents will be forced to find another school for their children. Does anyone feel bad for Eddie Long, or do we all think this is just karma giving him what he deserves?
