Nick Cannon’s Health Announcement, “I Have An Autoimmune Disease”

Earlier this year, we learned that media mogul (and Mariah Carey’s baby-daddy) Nick Cannon had been suffering from mild kidney failure, which forced a few hospital stays. And although things look on the up-and-up for the 28 year old father of two, Cannon has recently shared just how serious his health is and confesses that he has an Autoimmune Disease.

According to CDC,

Autoimmune diseases are the third most common category of disease in the United States after cancer and heart disease; they affect approximately 5%–8% of the population or 14–22 million persons (1). Autoimmune diseases can affect virtually every site in the body, including the endocrine system, connective tissue, gastrointestinal tract, heart, skin, and kidneys.

Friday, Cannon personally addressed his condition on his web site. He wrote:

I found out that the problems with my kidneys were because of an autoimmune disease that doctors found in my system. They say it’s just like lupus. With the support of my wife, family, and friends I’ve been able to battle back and get my health to a strong place. I’m blessed to have a platform to share my life, and there is a responsibility that comes with that, so I’m doing everything I can to drive awareness about kidney disease and lupus as well as provide inspiration to those living with it. With March being World Kidney Month, it’s only right that I use every outlet to further this awareness. I will be sitting down with Good Morning America on Monday to further discuss my journey please tune into ABC at 8am, I’ll also be sharing my Ncredible Health Hustle with you here, so keep checking back often. Thank you for the continued support and much love to you all.

Tune in Monday, for Cannon’s GMA appearance.
