(EXCLUSIVE) Kanye West Blasts Latin Musician’s Lawsuit Accusing Him of Tarnishing Band’s Reputation
Medina filed suit claiming the movie – which features murder, violence and drug sales – tarnished the band’s reputation along with infringing on their trademark for the use of “Loisaidas”. He stated that his fans will be confused when the movie is released, thinking he promotes such things in the film.
The singer sued Kanye & Damon demanded an injunction from them releasing the film under the current title, damages for their infringement and also attorney fees.
Then on July 27th, Kanye fired back at the lawsuit filed by the Latin musician. He explains that Medina did not coin the term, “Loisaidas” and says it was actually created back in the 70’s by a poet and it has been used in various articles to describe the Lower East Side and it’s residents.
Further, he says Medina failed to mention his musical duo is not the first band to call themselves “Loisaidas”. Kanye says that the musician cannot claim ownership to the slang term and his film has every right to be named “Loisaidas” due to the first amendment and says the term is generic and merely descriptive. He is demanding the entire lawsuit be thrown out.
