Celebs Attend National Museum of African American History Opening: Oprah, Stevie Wonder, Patti Labelle, Will Smith, Shonda Rhimes, Ava DuVernay, Lupita Nyong’o, Will Smith, Dave Chappelle
It’s finally here! More than 100 years after it was originally proposed, the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture officially opened its doors in Washington, D.C.
Over the weekend, celebrities took to the nation’s capital to attend. President Obama gave remarks at the dedication ceremony, stating:
This national museum helps to tell a richer and fuller story of who we are. It helps us better understand the lives of yes, the president, but also the slave. The industrialist but also the porter. The keeper of the status quo but also the activist seeking to overthrow that status quo.
The weekend celebration included musical performances, dance, spoken word, and two evening concerts. We spotted a number of celebrities, much of whom posted flix on their social media. Check out the photos.
