Showtime Picks Up “White Famous”
Showtime has snagged Jamie Foxx’s series White Famous, starring Saturday Night Live alum, Jay Pharoah.
The project is based on an original idea by Foxx and is about the actor/comedian’s real-life experiences coming up in the entertainment business. Tom Kapinos wrote the script for the series. Tim Story directed the pilot and will executive produce.
The comedy is about a talented, young African-American comedian, Floyd Mooney (played by Pharoah), whose star is rising, forcing him to navigate the treacherous waters of maintaining his credibility as he begins to cross-over toward becoming “white famous.”
The series will co-star Megalyn Echikunwoke as Floyd’s ex-girlfriend Sadie, the love of his life and the mother of his son. Utkarsh Ambudkar (The Mindy Project) plays Malcolm, Floyd’s frustrated agent who wants his client to do whatever it takes to make it big. Jacob Ming-Trent (Feed the Beast) and Lonnie Chavis (This Is Us) round out the cast; Stephen Tobolowsky (The Goldbergs) guests in the pilot.
A premiere date has not yet been announced.
