EXCLUSIVE: “Black-Ish” Star Jenifer Lewis Scores Settlement w/ LA Fitness Over Ex Lover Who Conned Her Out of $$
Jenifer Lewis Scores Settlement w/ LA Fitness Over Ex Lover Who Conned Her
theJasmineBRAND.com exclusively reports, ‘Black-ish’ star Jenifer Lewis has scored a payday in her legal battle with LA Fitness, who she blamed for allegedly being conned by a gym manager she dated and the actress has agreed to drop her suit.
Here’s the latest: Then on July 20th, docs were filed revealing the actress reached a confidential settlement with LA Fitness and Lewis’ scored a payday in the legal battle. Last month, LA Fitness explains they offered a settlement to Lewis – which did not admit guilt – as an attempt to end the matter.
They say she accepted the offer and agreed to dismiss her entire lawsuit, which was to be done 5 days after she received her settlement payment. Instead she breached the deal by not properly dismissing her case, which LA Fitness says is for no other reason than a final publicity stunt. They are demanding Lewis dismiss the case per their agreement.
Here’s the backstory: Earlier this year, the actress sued LA Fitness accusing them of hiring a con-man who screwed her out of $50k. Lewis explained she worked out at the West Hollywood location. She met a manager, while he worked the front desk.
The two got to know each other and started seeing each other outside the gym. About 3 months into their relationship, he allegedly asked Lewis for a loan for the film he was producing, telling her it could win an Oscar pointing out previous awards he won for sound design. She agreed to loan him $50,000.
The actress says she eventually discovered he was a con-man who had served time previously. She blamed LA Fitness for the situation accusing them of not running a background check on their employee.
She claimed to have confronted managers at the gym, only for them to take his side and told her to stop making accusations, later blocking her from the gym. Lewis sued demanding the return of her $50k + other damages. She also posted about the situation on social media.
LA fitness released a statement in regard to the suit, claiming all employees undergo a background check before being hired and their search on the manager did not reveal any of Jenifer’s claims of him being a con-man.
