Mariah Carey Had Weight Loss Surgery

Rumor has it, Mariah Carey has gone under the knife. According to reports, the 47-year-old singer had weight-loss surgery. Reportedly, last month she underwent gastric sleeve surgery, a surgical weight-loss procedure in which the stomach is reduced to about 15% of its original size, by surgical removal of a large portion of the stomach along the greater curvature. The result is a sleeve or tube like structure. The procedure permanently reduces the size of the stomach, although there could be some dilatation of the stomach later on in life. The procedure is generally performed laparoscopically and is irreversible.

The procedure is said to have been done by a top surgeon in Beverly Hills, after her weight reportedly skyrocketed. We hear that she had the surgery after being body shamed by some critics online. Reportedly, Carey began noticing that it was harder for her to dance during her live concerts. That coupled with some of the negativity she noticed online, ultimately led her to have the procedure done.

No word on how much weight Carey has lost.
