Michelle Obama Launches ‘Global Girls Alliance’ To Support Girls Education
Michelle Obama is still working on initiatives to progress the young people of America despite no longer living in the White House. The former First Lady announced the launch of the Global Girls Alliance, an organization she founded to support over 1,500 girls education groups around the world. The organization will offer support to these groups in the form of funding, training, technical support and more. Mrs. Obama says of her new initiative.
When you educate a girl, you educate a family, a community, a country. If we care about climate change, if we care about poverty, then we have to care about education.
She also spoke about the #MeToo movement, in which she says,
Enough is enough. The world is a sadly dangerous place for women and girls…and I think young women are tired of it. Change is not a direct, smooth path — there’s going to be bumps and resistance. There has been a status quo… and that is changing and there’s going to be a little discomfort. It’s up to women out there to say, ‘sorry you feel uncomfortable but I’m paving the way for the next generation.
Sweet!
