Popular Philadelphia Battle Rapper Tech 9 Has Died
The hip-hop world is currently mourning the loss of one of the underground music scene’s greatest champions. According to reports, popular Philly battle rapper Tech 9 has died.
Battle rapper Tech 9, real name Akeem Mickens, was considered a legend to many die-hard hip-hop fans due to his much-praised skills on the mic. As an instrumental figure of modern battle rap, Tech 9 began his battle rap career in the underground leagues, Lionz Den and Street Arena. Although, being a popular fixture at the Ultimate Rap League is where he rose to his greatest heights, he was also well-noted for the way his rhymes included humor, clever wordplay and an intense delivery.

Tech 9 will be remembered for his exceptional skills, but he also transitioned his career to include becoming a commentator. His memorable commentary on the battle rap platform Champion was highly-regarded, highlighting his personality and giving him a second wind within the hip-hop arena.
Tech 9, not to be confused with Kansas City rapper Tech N9ne, leaves behind family, friends and the respect of hip-hop.
