Jada Pinkett-Smith Says She ‘Nearly Reached A Breaking Point’ In Her Marriage To Will Smith
Although Will Smith and wife Jada Pinkett-Smith have one of the longest-running marriages in Hollywood, spanning 21 years, they have been very vocal about the storms they’ve had to weather to keep them from breaking apart.
In a new interview, the ‘Set It Off’ actress admits that she “nearly reached a breaking point” in her and Will’s relationship. Pinkett-Smith confessed,
“There was too much concentration on what was happening externally, and the family unit itself wasn’t getting the attention and care that I felt we needed.”
She then said that about a decade into their union was when a falter had finally hit her. She recalls,
“Will’s like, ‘We just came from Oslo, going to the [2009] Nobel Peace Prize ceremony [for Barack Obama] as a family, you’ve got a big house with a lake – isn’t this amazing?!’ And I’m like, ‘No,’”
She continued,
“By the time my 40th [birthday] came, I was like, ‘I can’t do it anymore.’ I was so depleted.”
However, Jada recalls that once she started recognizing her feelings of suicide, she took it upon herself to fix her life in many aspects.
“I had to really take time out for me and figure out what I wanted for myself. I had to kind of put everyone aside and ask, ‘What would I do every day if it was just Jada?’ I literally had no idea.”
By redefining herself, she said her marriage was reevaluated, despite its many years to mend.
“I am kind of a ride-or-die chick…I just knew with the kind of love that Will and I share — which is beyond romantic love — that we could transform our union and figure out how to re-create what we had.”
Her Facebook show, Red Table Talk became an opportunity for her to tell her trials and tribulations to help others and bring awareness to certain issues.
Previously, Jada had shared on her web series how on “betrayals of the heart” plagued her relationship with the ‘Bad Boys’ star.
Nonetheless, Jada says that her love for Will is unbreakable.
“I am kind of a ride-or-die chick. I just knew with the kind of love that Will and I share — which is beyond romantic love — that we could transform our union and figure out how to re-create what we had.”
