Yandy Smith Says Mendeecees Harris Will Be Released From Jail In A Few Months, Will Return To ‘Love & Hip Hop’
Yandy Smith has confirmed that her longtime love Mendeecees Harris will be stepping in front of the “Love & Hip Hop: New York” cameras again when he is released from federal prison.
Smith, who has been a main cast member on the show since its second season, says that Harris will be released in just a few months.
It’s not clear when the exact release date will be, but the most recent reports say he was granted an early release for next year. Reportedly, he was sentenced to eight years back in 2015 for his involvement in a drug ring that delivered illegal substances between Rochester, New York and New York City from 2006-2008. The 15 months he was in prison before being let out on bail also went toward his sentence.
The popular reality show had already documented his life before turning himself in, and how that impacted Smith and his children. He and Smith have son Omare and daughter Skye together. He’s also father to Aasim and Mendeecees, Jr. from previous relationships.
Interestingly enough, he and Smith also had a lavish wedding on the network in 2015. But Smith later told Harris that they weren’t legally married and that she only wanted to spiritually marry him.
As of 2017, she said they were working on legalizing their union.
“We have definitely decided to go ahead and do the paperwork and all that stuff, not that I was so concerned or cared about that stuff, but it meant a lot to him. So it was only right…With him being away, we have to re-register, get things notarized and all that stuff.”
