Marlon Wayans Jokes That He Prayed For Bill Cosby’s Jail Time After He Criticized “The Wayans Brothers”: That Was My Prayer! That’s What You Get!
Who knew funny man Marlon Wayans could hold a grudge? He says that the cult classic 90s sitcom, “The Wayans Brothers,” wasn’t always well-received. In fact, he says that he and his brother, Shawn Wayans, didn’t receive support from veteran actors when the show launched on The WB in 1995. One of those hecklers was comedy icon, Bill Cosby.

But Marlon Wayans got his revenge for Bill Cosby’s ill-wishes. He joked with Netflix’s “Strong Black Lead” podcast host, Janelle James, that he prayed for Bill Cosby to be sentenced to prison for hating “The Wayans Brothers!” Marlon said:
“Me and Shawn came out on a brand new network. We launched The WB. We were two young Black men that created a show. I was 20, Shawn was, like, 22. You would think we’d get all this support, and we got hammered! Everybody hated us! Cosby hated us… him in jail right now? That was my prayer! That’s what you get for hating ‘The Wayans Brothers!'”

He explained why the show’s plot could have made industry veterans like Bill Cosby uncomfortable:
“Well, here’s the thing: we’re both physical comedians, right? And we speak from blue collar. I was born and raised in the projects of New York City. Not everybody wants to taste that bitter fruit of truth. Like, that’s my perspective! Our show was about two men struggling to make it. Cosby was about, ‘I made it. I’m a doctor! I have my lovely family; I have my precious son and my three beautiful daughters – and it’s a perfect life!’ We was the opposite. We was single, young, struggling with a wild dad. We were physical. It was the anti-Cosby show.”
