Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Reveal Shocking Plan To ‘Step Back’ As Senior Members Of Royal Family & ‘Work To be Financially Independent’

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex made a bombshell announcement on Wednesday (Jan. 8th), taking to Instagram to reveal their new modern plans to alter how they handle certain areas of their public life after stepping back from their roles as senior members of the royal family. In the couple’s statement on Wednesday, Prince Harry and Meghan begin by stating they also plan to become “financially independent,”

“After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution. We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen.”

The couple continues, adding they also plan to move to the United States of America.

“It is with your encouragement, particularly over the last few years, that we feel prepared to make this adjustment. We now plan to balance our time between the United Kingdom and North America, continuing to honour our duty to The Queen, the Commonwealth, and our patronages. This geographic balance will enable us to raise our son with an appreciation for the royal tradition into which he was born, while also providing our family with the space to focus on the next chapter, including the launch of our new charitable entity. We look forward to sharing the full details of this exciting next step in due course, as we continue to collaborate with Her Majesty The Queen, The Prince of Wales, The Duke of Cambridge and all relevant parties. Harry and Meghan, who tied the knot back in May 2018 and are the proud new parents of 8-month-old son Archie.

As previously reported, their new change follows a hectic year as Harry recently opened up about media scrutiny in October 2018 and later skipping Christmas with the royals in favor of spending time with his new born, Archie and Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, in Canada. He says,

“I have been a silent witness to her private suffering for too long. To stand back and do nothing would be contrary to everything we believe in. There comes a point when the only thing to do is to stand up to this behaviour, because it destroys people and destroys lives. Put simply, it is bullying, which scares and silences people. We all know this isn’t acceptable, at any level. We won’t and can’t believe in a world where there is no accountability for this.”
