SNL’s Michael Che Speaks Out, After Losing Grandmother To Coronavirus: Why Are Black People The Most Athletic, But Lead The World In Heart Disease & Diabetes!
Michael Che, most known for his work on Saturday Night Live, as co-anchor and writer of the Weekend Update, lost his Grandmother to the Coronavirus.
The 36 year old comedian posted an open letter on Instagram on Monday, April 6th. The sobering intro read:
“Hi. I’m Michael Che, from TV. Last night my grandmother passed away from the Coronavirus.”
Che describes a roller-coaster of emotions, enduring the loss of his beloved grandmother.
“I’m doing OK, considering. I’m obviously very hurt and angry that she had to go through all that pain alone. But I’m also happy that she’s not in pain anymore. And I also feel guilty for feeling happy.”
The SNL standout expressed fear of the unknown.
“I don’t know if I’ll lose someone else to this virus. I don’t even know if I’ll be lost to this virus. Who f*****g knows?”
As with any true comic, Che finds room for dark humor by drawing from the March 18th remarks of a Texas Senator.
“I actually believe this is 5G poisoning. And not because I’ve done any research on this, or even understand what 5G really is. I just refuse to believe I lost my sweet, beautiful grandma, because some n***a ate a bat one time.”
He continues:
“I know I shouldn’t curse. But I’m grieving. Anyway, I just wanna tell everybody to watch what you’re eating at this time. And not just the n****as who still eat bats. “
Che encourages all his readers to improve their diet in order to boost their immune system. He goes on to question:
“why is it that black folks are some of the most athletic people on the planet, yet we lead the world in heart disease and diabetes. How’s THAT possible? c-o-n-spiracy! That’s how. Even now, I see commercials from fast food companies offering to deliver food to people during this pandemic?! When THEIR FOOD IS KILLING US IN THE FIRST PLACE!”
Che also condemns media outlets for posting death tolls and not enough preventative measures.
“Maybe tell people what they should be eating and what foods to avoid, so they’ll be better prepared to fight this thing, instead of just posting death tolls as your lead story every goddamn day! Every time I click on CNN, they’re like “we’ve reached 10,000!”
Michael encourages the public to get educated on healthier food choices during their time in Quarantine.
“We can all do more to protect ourselves than just washing our hands and dressing up like subzero. We may have to do some reading, but we got the time.”
