Eminem Celebrates 12 Years Of Sobriety
Despite April 20th being the marijuana connoisseur’s holiday, rapper Marshall “Eminem” Mathers celebrated an ironic milestone on the same day – his sobriety. The self-proclaimed “Rap God” took to Instagram to celebrate twelve years without drugs, with a caption alluding to his triumphant 2010 comeback song, “Not Afraid.” Showing off his sobriety pin, Eminem typed:
“@eminem Clean dozen, in the books! I’m not afraid.”
Just last month, Eminem admitted to boxing legend Mike Tyson that his road to sobriety after years of addiction to Vicodin, Valium, and exercise was no easy feat:
“I’m used to it now, but it was hard at first.”
In 2015, he revealed on how his addiction spiraled in 2007:
“The coating on the Vicodin and the Valium I’d been taking for years leaves a hole in your stomach, so to avoid a stomachache, I was constantly eating – and eating badly…I got an addict’s brain, and when it came to running, I think I got a little carried away. I became a f*cking hamster.”
“Seventeen miles a day on a treadmill. I would get up in the morning, and before I went to the studio, I would run eight and a half miles in about an hour. Then I’d come home and run another eight and a half.”
Congratulations on your incredible progress, Eminem!
