Rep. Ilhan Omar’s Father Dies Of COVID-19 Complications
The global COVID-19 pandemic sadly landed on the doorstep of Rep. Ilhan Omar – the first woman of the color to hold an elected office in Minnesota. Her father, Nur Omar Mohamed, unfortunately passed away yesterday morning (June 15th). The 67-year-old succumbed to complications of the coronavirus. Rep. Ilhan Omar’s official statement read:
“It is with tremendous sadness and pain that I share that my father, Nur Omar Mohamed, passed away today due to complications from COVID-19. No words can describe what he meant to me and all who knew him. My family and I ask for your respect and privacy during this time.”
She eulogized her beloved father on social media:
“Surely we belong to God and to him shall we return. It is with tremendous sadness and pain to say goodbye to my father, Nur Omar Mohamed. No words can describe what he meant to me and all who knew and loved him.”

Rep. Ilhan Omar affectionately pointed out their striking resemblance.

According to research done by Johns Hopskins University, more than 2 million people have been infected with COVID-19, and the virus killed more than 100,000.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Rep. Ilhan Omar, and the family and friends of Mr. Nur Omar Mohamed.
