Nick Cannon: I’m Taking Time Off From My Radio Show

Host and television executive, Nick Cannon, 39, has announced on Twitter (July 16) that he has decided to take some time away from his morning radio show, Nick Cannon Mornings, on Power 106, following anti-semitic controversy.  His show launched on June 17, 2019 and has since been nationally syndicated. He announced the news on social media:

Morning radio family.  I have decided to take some time away from my radio show so I can commit myself to deeper, more thorough reflection and education.

Nick Cannon continued, thanking Rabbis, community leaders and institutions, stating that he will

“use this time to establish an action plan towards real, impactful change and advocacy aimed at bringing people together.”

The young mogul recently apologized after coming under fire for anti-semitic comments he made while speaking on his “Cannon’s Class” podcast.  He has since been fired by VIACOM after a nearly 20-years-long professional relationship with the company.  His apology stated,

“First and foremost I extend my deepest and most sincere apologies to my Jewish sisters and brothers for the hurtful and divisive words that came out of my mouth during my interview with Richard Griffin. They reinforced the worst stereotypes of a proud and magnificent people and I feel ashamed of the uninformed and naïve place that these words came from. The video of this interview has since been removed.”

Nick Cannon’s comments in the podcast garnered mixed reactions on social media.  While some fans agreed with his statements, others felt that it didn’t help the current racial climate of the country.  His announcement on Twitter, however, has fans showing their support for the ‘Wild ‘N Out‘ star and creator.

Per usual, there were several critics who also chimed in.

Still, amid the Nick Cannon controversy, he still remains employed by FOX as the host of  “The Masked Singer“.

In an official statement, the Fox network mentioned that the controversy will serve as a learning opportunity:

“When we were made aware of Nick Cannon’s interview with Richard Griffin on YouTube, we immediately began a dialogue with Nick…He is clear and remorseful that his words were wrong and lacked both understanding and context, and inadvertently promoted hate. This was important for us to observe. Nick has sincerely apologized, and quickly taken steps to educate himself and make amends.”
