Trey Songz To Critic Who Questioned His Salute To Black Love: America Has Always Wanted The Black Family Separated Because Of The Strength We Have
Singer Trey Songz reacted to a fan who took issue with him using the phrase “black love.”
The criticism came after Trey Songz released his new music video for his single “Circles”, which he describes as a dedication to
“black love and some of the circles that we go through in relationships.”
In the new music video, Trey Songz, along with his leading lady are one of three couples shown in the video. They are all of different ages as their makeups and breakups are captured.
Trey Songz introduced the concept ahead of the video’s release and wrote,
“The video for Circles is amazing, directed by @mahaneela.jpg we centered it around black love and some of circles we go through in relationships. This is the trailer”
One fan’s comment caught his attention as they questioned,
“Why is “black” love different from “white” love? Love IS love.”
The R&B crooner responded,
“because black love, families were torn apart purposely. Mothers raped, Men taken from homes. America has always wanted the black family separated because of the strength we have when we are one. They go so far as to say black fathers don’t exist and black love doesn’t exist. So pardon me while I show black love and not all love.”
He continued,
“The stereotypes, the hardships, the black man and woman get the bottom of the barrel in America. So when you’re fighting for love and fighting against the world’s obsession with the oppression of your people, there are underlying pains in your relationship that are not in others.”
