Issa Rae Says Season 5 Of ‘Insecure’ Will Return ‘When COVID Drops’
Issa Rae’s hit show Insecure is something many people have become obsessed with since it initially premiered back in 2016. Even though season 4 ended in June of this year, it seems that Issa Rae’s fans are already growing impatient with waiting for season 5. One fan responded to a tweet Issa Rae sent out expressing her appreciation for American singer Jazmine Sullivan and asked,
“When Season 5 dropping?”

Issa Rae responded to their tweet and said
“When COVID drops”

Another fan told Issa Rae she should start filming now and just shoot everything on Zoom. However, it doesn’t look like Issa will be taking that idea into consideration. She replied to the suggestion and said,
“so y’all can complain about it in your complaining outfits? like you always do…?”

Even though Issa Rae won’t be virtually filming her show, she did share an image this past May of a virtual writer’s room which included the show’s writers and showrunner, Prentice Penny. with the caption,
“back to work for @insecurehbo Season 5 #insecurehbo.”

Issa Rae has also previously spoken on the fact that she thinks COVID helped boost the overall ratings for season 4 of “Insecure.”
“I’m going to be real. I think the pandemic, being quarantined during a period when our humanity was questioned, in a more front-facing way, definitely helped. We came on during a time when people were bored at home, and also there were racial uprisings, and our show served as a comfort.”
She continued,
“Thank God, because to release anything else during this time — even our show — I felt a huge guilt in coming out during the protests because there were just so many more important things happening, I didn’t want to take full focus away from that. But to hear people be like, ‘No, this is an escape. It brings us back to Black people being joyous and happy and ourselves’ — our natural state really felt like we were meant to air during this time. I think that for sure helped people to see our show in a different light.”
