R. Kelly Was Almost Stabbed W/ A Pen By The Inmate That Allegedly Attacked Him, Lawyer Says
More details have come out about the attack that allegedly took place against jailed R. Kelly by another inmate. As previously reported, R. Kelly, who is currently being held at the Metropolitan Correctional Center, was allegedly attacked while he was on his bed by another inmate. The attack supposedly took place because the inmate was frustrated that the correctional facility had multiple lockdowns due to R. Kelly’s fans protesting outside of the jail.

R. Kelly’s lawyer, Steve Greenberg, is now saying that in addition to striking his client several times, the inmate that allegedly attacked him also had a pen that he was planning on stabbing the “Ignition” singer with. However, the inmate was reportedly pulled off of R.Kelly before he had the chance to stab him.
Following the initial attack, R. Kelly’s lawyer took to Twitter and said:
“Yesterday we were told that an inmate had attacked R Kelly at the MCC in Chicago. We received conflicting reports as to the extent of his injuries. We have not been provided any information from the jail, nor has Mr. Kelly called. We are hopeful that he was not seriously injured.”
He also tweeted,
“Regardless, it is time to release Mr. Kelly. The government cannot ensure his safety, and they cannot give him his day in court. We should not incarcerate people indefinitely because we cannot provide them with due process!”
R. Kelly’s attorney also filed a motion asking the court to release him on bail.
The motion states,
“This is an inmate that never should have been anywhere near Mr. Kelly, an individual who is charged with the most violent of crimes, and one who plainly has no respect for the rules, he has the phrase ‘Fu** The Feds’ tattooed on his face.”
It also says,
“These unnecessary institutional lockdowns have needlessly promoted animosity towards Mr. Kelly. Notably, the institution does not go into lockdown during other, violent, downtown protests or during citywide looting.”
His lawyer also shared that following the attack R. Kelly was placed in solitary confinement. It’s unclear if the singer is still there or not.
R. Kelly’s legal team has tried a few times to get him released on bail as he awaits trial on a series of child sex abuse charges. However, to date, all of those attempts have been denied. The judge presiding over R.Kelly’s case has yet to file responses to the most recent bail request.
