Trevor Noah Says Gender Reveal Parties Shouldn’t Happen Until ‘The Child Is Enough To Know Their Actual Gender’
While speaking about a recent gender reveal party gone wrong, late-night talk show host and comedian Trevor Noah said that those types of parties are “outdated” to begin with. Earlier this week, a “smoke-generating pyrotechnic device” used during a gender reveal party sparked the El Dorado Fire, one of the many wildfires burning in California, according to reports.
Trevor Noah said during his show,
“Guys this has to stop. Or at least, if you insist on a gender reveal, you should do something that helps the situation. ‘The water’s pink! It’s a girl!'”
He went on to express the issue he has with gender reveal parties in general.
“And aside from all the damage it can cause, celebrating a baby’s genitalia is starting to feel very outdated. Given everything we’re learning about gender, gender reveal parties should only happen when the child is old enough to know their actual gender and to pitch in some cash for the fire damage.”
Trevor Noah ended with:
“Honestly, I don’t know why we need gender reveal parties. You know what we do need though, race reveal parties.”
It’s not clear if he was kidding, but he did respond to a headline that said he was “offended” by gender reveal parties.
