Update #2 (Oct. 1): Brandi Maxiell, who previously starred in VH1’s “Basketball Wives” will be going home soon after she battled a serious case of COVID-19.

Her former co-star DJ Duffey shared the latest news on Instagram and wrote:

“Update! Brandi will be home soon! Thank you for your prayers and concerns”

Original Story (Sept. 27th): Former Basketball Wives star Brandi Maxiell, 37, has been hospitalized for severe COVID-19 complications. DJ Duffey, Maxiell’s close friend who also appeared with her on the reality show, posted a picture on Instagram on Saturday (Sept. 27) asking fans to pray for Brandi. Duffey captioned the picture,

“I need prayers for my sister @brandimaxiell Where ever you are right now, just uplift her in prayer please.”

Brandi Maxiell’s sister, Jayde Penn, later confirmed that Brandi was indeed under medical care.

“My sister has been diagnosed with a severe case of COVID-19 and was hospitalized Thursday night after having trouble breathing,”

she said.

“We would like to ask everyone to please keep her in your prayers as she continues to fight through this. We love you all and please stay safe!”

During her time on Basketball Wives, Brandi Maxiell revealed that she battled ovarian cancer in 2007. While speculating, fans mentioned Brandi’s previous Cancer battle, however, her sister Jayde says that Brandi’s current condition does not have anything to do with cancer at this time.

In an 2018 interview, Brandi explained about her battle:

“I was really, really young when I was diagnosed with this disease, but still, it helped me grow and it helped me to appreciate life, things better.”

Brandi went into remission in 2009 and hasn’t had any problems with the illness since.

Please keep Brandi and her family in your prayers during this difficult time!
