Meghan Markle Was Reportedly Not Allowed To Get Coffee With Her Mom During Time As Working Member Of The Royal Family
More details into how restrictive Meghan Markle’s life was when she lived in the UK have recently surfaced. According to reports, Meghan Markle wasn’t allowed to get coffee with her own mother, Doria Ragland, during her time as a working member of the Royal family. As previously reported, Meghan Markle and her husband Prince Harry recently explained to Oprah in a now-viral interview what ultimately led them to step down as senior members of the royal family and moving to California. One of the things Meghan Markle touched on during the interview was how little freedom she had.
In a recent op-ed for Harper’s Bazaar, Royal reporter Omid Scobie provided further insight into Meghan Markle’s strict royal lifestyle. According to Scobie, The Duchess of Sussex wasn’t even allowed to go on a coffee date with her mom Doria Ragland. Scobie wrote,
“Lunch with friends could have momentarily lifted her spirits, but social outings were dismissed by royal family members and aides who said it would be better to lie low. Her image was ‘everywhere right now,’ they told her. Her isolated existence stood out in particular to her worried mother, Doria Ragland, who during a summer 2019 visit to Frogmore Cottage was surprised to discover that neither she nor her daughter was able to go out into Windsor town to pick up coffees. ‘You’re stuck in here,’ Doria told Meghan at the time, according to a source.”
During the Oprah interview, Meghan Markle revealed that even though she was mentally suffering she wasn’t allowed to go see her friends to potentially help lift her spirits. She said,
“You couldn’t just go. I mean, you have to understand as well, when I joined that family, that was the last time, until we came here [to North America], that I saw my passport, my driver’s license, my keys. All that gets turned over.”
