Regé-Jean Page Speaks On What It Was Like For His Family To Watch His Sex Scenes In ‘Bridgerton’: They Don’t Want To Be Overwhelmed By My Backside
Bridgerton star Regé-Jean Page has recently revealed what it was like watching his sex scenes from the popular series with his family. Regé-Jean Page, 31, is a British actor who quickly became a fan favorite after he starred as Simon Basset in Netflix’s hit series Bridgerton. During a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Regé-Jean Page spoke on how overwhelming it was to watch himself acting out intimate scenes for the period drama series. He said,
“No one was sufficiently prepared. I wasn’t sufficiently prepared, and I was there. I think people were grateful for the intensity of the romantic aspects of Bridgerton; I’m not sure how grateful I was to watch it for myself. It was overwhelming. But I think people were looking to be overwhelmed.”
He continued and shared how his family felt seeing him in sex scenes.
“My family doesn’t want to be overwhelmed by my backside, specifically, too often, but they’ll take it on this occasion because everyone seems to be terribly happy.”
In a separate interview, Page revealed that his sexual acting performances have been a topic of discussion for his family group chat.
“We’ve got a family WhatsApp group, so there’s a couple flashing red light emojis and there’s the odd peach emoji — certain people have threatened to rate my peach. A couple of cousins missed the memo. So they’re watching the show and I got a very stern message in my Instagram DMs just going, ‘There really needs to be a cousin warning.'”
As previously reported, even though Page was well-received as his role of Simon Basset in Bridgerton, Shonda Rhimes confirmed in April that the British actor will not be making a return as a main character for the upcoming season. She said she was surprised by fans’ reaction to the news that he wouldn’t be back.
“I was really shocked, because usually that happens when I’ve killed off somebody that’s been around for a while. Like, we didn’t kill him, he’s still alive! [Regé-Jean] is a powerful, amazing actor and that meant we did our job—every season, our job is finding the right people and putting together this incredible, world-shifting romance. I don’t know that I expected this much of an explosion, given that every book [in the Bridgerton series] is a different romance. What would be the ever-after of this combo? I mean, really: What would Regé-Jean do, you know what I mean? We gave them their happily ever after! And now we have this next couple coming. And so yeah, I was like, whoa!”
She also confirmed reports that the plan always was for Regé-Jean Page to only be on the show’s first season.
“We made a one-season deal with him at the beginning of season one. That was the plan: come and do one season as the duke. Anything else that was extra and wasn’t really the plan when we started… So there’s a lot of fantastically interesting talk that’s been going on, mainly cause I think people are having a hard time letting go.”
