Sharon Stone Says Viola Davis ‘Is Every Bit The Actress Meryl Streep Is’ & Trends Online As Fans Seemingly Agree With Her
Sharon Stone trends on Twitter after sharing her thoughts on fellow actresses Viola Davis and Meryl Streep. Sharon Stone, 63, is a current topic of discussion after she said that Viola Davis, 55, ‘is every bit the actress’ as Meryl Streep, 72. During a recent interview, Sharon Stone was seemingly offended when she was asked about finally getting to work with Meryl Streep on Steven Soderbergh’s 2019 Netflix film The Laundromat. Sharon Stone responded and said,
“I like the way you phrase that, that I finally got to work with Meryl Streep. You didn’t say, ‘Meryl finally got to work with Sharon Stone.’ Or we finally got to work together. Because that’s the way her life went, she got built up to be, ‘Everyone wants to work with Meryl. I wonder if she likes that?”
She continued,
“The way you structured the question is very much the answer to the question. The business was set up that we should all envy and admire Meryl because only Meryl got to be the good one. And everyone should compete against Meryl. I think Meryl is an amazingly wonderful woman and actress. But in my opinion, quite frankly, there are other actresses equally as talented as Meryl Streep. The whole Meryl Streep iconography is part of what Hollywood does to women.”
She added,
“Viola Davis is every bit the actress Meryl Streep is. Emma Thompson. Judy Davis. Olivia Colman. Kate Winslet, for f*ck’s sake. But you say Meryl and everybody falls on the floor.”
Meryl Streep and Viola Davis worked together in the critically-acclaimed 2008 film Doubt.
Following her comments going viral, Sharon Stone took to her Twitter account to explain what she meant. She Tweeted,
“To be clear; Meryl Streep is one of the greatest actors of all times. Just not to the exclusion of others.
Sharon Stone”

She added the portion of the interview that went viral wasn’t what was important,
“What I actually spoke about yesterday was SINGLE PARENT ADOPTION RIGHTS IN ITALY. The Meryl story is just a political distraction from reality. Thx for your understanding of media.”

Sharon Stone also trended on Twitter as many fans seemingly agreed with her as they weighed in and shared their opinions on her comments.
