Haiti’s First Lady Martine Moïse Shares Update From Hospital Bed Following Attack & Assassination Of President Jovenel Moïse + Head Of Security Arrested
Haiti’s First Lady, Martine Moïse, is alive and in the hospital following an attack on her home that left her husband, President Jovenel Moïse, dead. Martine Moïse recently thanked her guardian angels for seeing her through a traumatic experience. On July 14 the First Lady tweeted a picture of herself in a hospital bed with a bandaged arm. She captioned the image,
“Thank you for the team of guardian angels who helped me through this terrible time. With your gentle touch, kindness and care, I was able to hold on. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!”
As previously reported, on July 7 Martine Moïse and her late husband, President Moïse, were attacked while at home in the Pelerin 5 district of Pétionville. President Jovenel Moïse was unfortunately assassinated by the intruders. It was initially reported that Haiti’s First Lady, Martine Moïse, was injured by a gunshot womb but was alive and receiving treatment. However, TV personality/writer Omarosa took to her Twitter and prematurely claimed that the First Lady succumbed to her injures and passed away as well.
President Moïse was 53 and had been in office for four years at the time of his death. Authorities continue to investigate the assassination of Haiti’s President.
They have recently arrested the head of security for Haiti’s presidential residence for allegedly having ties to the attack. On July 14 Dimitri Herard was reportedly questioned at the Inspector General’s office then transferred to a police station in Port-au-Prince.
Dimitri Herard released a letter claiming he missed a court inquiry ordered by the Port-au-Prince public prosecutor because of his appearance at the Inspector General’s office. He wrote,
“I have the honor to inform you, following the invitation sent to me by the public prosecutor’s office of Port au-Prince. I am currently under a precautionary measure ordered by the General Inspectorate of the Haitian Police. As a result, I am not available to comply with the request of the public prosecutor.”
He added,
“While I am willing to respond once this protective measure expires, I respectfully request a stay of execution from your office for this purpose as may be required.”
Reportedly, Dimitri Herard is the only person from President Jovenel Moïse’s security detail that’s currently being held.
Authorities are also claiming that the attack involved at least 26 Colombians that were hired through a Florida-based security company. According to Colombian National Police, Dimitri Herard took a trip to the capital of Colombia this past May. Authorities are investigating if he met with any of the Colombian nationals allegedly involved in the assassination during his trip.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the nation of Haiti and the loved ones of the Moïse family at this time.
