Kathy Griffin Reveals She Has Lung Cancer ‘Even Though I’ve Never Smoked’, Will Undergo Surgery To Have Half Of Left Lung Removed
Comedian and TV personality Kathy Griffin has revealed she is battling lung cancer.
She shared the news with fans on social media Monday. She wrote:
“I’ve got to tell you guys something. I have cancer. I’m about to go into surgery to have half of my left lung removed. Yes, I have lung cancer even though I’ve never smoked!”
She appeared to be in good spirits despite the life-changing news and added,
“The doctors are very optimistic as it is stage one and contained to my left lung. Hopefully no chemo or radiation after this and I should have normal function with my breathing. I should be up and running around as usual in a month or less.”
She continued,
“It’s been a helluva 4 years, trying to get back to work, making you guys laugh and entertaining you, but I’m gonna be just fine.”
Interestingly enough, she suggested her condition could have been worse had she not been “fully vaccinated.”
“The consequences for being unvaccinated would have been even more serious. Please stay up to date on your medical check ups. It’ll save your life.”
She will open up about the diagnosis in her interview with Nightline, scheduled to air this evening (Aug. 2). She said in a sneak peek,
“I was definitely in shock. I’m still a little bit in shock — not denial.”
She’s also slated to discuss her battle with mental health, addiction, and her new life being sober.
Prayers for Kathy Griffin’s full recovery!
