Taraji P. Henson Reveals She Filmed Her ‘Acrimony’ Role In 5 Days: Tyler Perry Told Me I Could Do It, So I Believed Him
Taraji P. Henson’s role in Acrimony was a heart-wrenching one. And now the award-winning actress has revealed she filmed it less than a week.
Taraji P. Henson starred as Melinda Gayle in the 2018 film, which was produced, written, and directed by Tyler Perry.
She explained on social media that the famed director encouraged her to complete filming for the role in five days. Taraji P. Henson shared a clip from the movie and added that she was also taping for the role of Cookie Lyon on Fox’s Empire at the same time.
“I filmed my role in Acrimony in FIVE DAYS in the middle of playing Cookie on @Empire!! Tyler Perry told me I could do it, so of course, I believed him”
She added,
“I was soooo afraid I would fail because I had no time to get into character (so I thought)! I learned something new about my instrument on this production.”
She shared a behind-the-scenes secret and continued,
“We also had no time for a lot of takes so EVErY scene was about two takes…maybe three and then it was time to move on !! WOW.”

That isn’t the only movie Tyler Perry filmed in a short amount of time. The cast of his A Fall From Grace movie said they taped that movie in five days as well.
When asked how they were able to keep things light with such a dark movie, Bresha Webb told PEOPLE Now,
“We did this movie in five days, so we really didn’t have time to just like.. I had fun, we all have fun every time we’re on set together.”
They joked that they barely had time to say their hellos before Tyler Perry was calling out “Action!”
Tyler Perry has previously explained that he has no writers room and pens all of his scripts himself.
